Overview
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 Hourly
Summary: The Batch Operator controls the process to produce concrete from raw materials and additives according to predetermined specifications using computer batching software. The Batch Person will verify that the correct admixtures are used in the proper dosages and will then provide verification that the concrete batched meets the specifications established by the company and the customer.
Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlant Operation:
- Batch and load at the appropriate time to arrive on the jobsite as scheduled
- Complete all paperwork in its entirety and forward as applicable
Personnel Supervision:
- Monitor job performance and productivity
- Coordinate drivers schedule, call off drivers if necessary, based on workload
- Ensure that all employees are following company’s policies and procedures
- Ensure that all employees are using all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are working safely
- Prepare employee performance appraisals (accurate, detailed, and unbiased appraisals are expected)
- Assist Plant Manager with accident investigation and reports as necessary
- Foster a team building environment
Maintenance of Plant/Yard General Housekeeping:
- Oversee or complete all maintenance needed for the safe and efficient operation of the assigned plant including Plant/Yard inspections and maintenance (as per the Plant Maintenance Schedule)
- Assist Plant Manager to ensure that company mixers at assigned plant are clean inside and out
Global Responsibilities:
- Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position
- This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional
Certifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Class B CDL preferred
- Thorough knowledge of operations of a ready‑mix/batch plant
Experience:
- Previous experience in all aspects of batching, dispatching, delivery of concrete, and previous supervisory skills
Skills/Abilities:
- Accuracy and attention to detail is a must
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret maps
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to climb ladder to check inventories and or to perform plant maintenance
- Fast paced environment with a need to respond to ever changing scenarios
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions
- Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants, and laboratories
- Flexible in work assignments; open to working in multiple areas as necessary to get the job done
- Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment
- Work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure
- Must be able to frequently bend to obtain samples from stockpiles or ground, climb ladders with buckets of admixtures, and push wheelbarrows of concrete
- Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary
- Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards, and jobsites as necessary
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds several times a day
