To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this .The Business Operations Department at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, & Earth Science at the University of Miami has an exciting full time position for a Manager, Sponsored Programs.
The Manager will oversee complex accounts and research awards from pre-award setup to post-award and award closeout, to include budget development, award management, and ensuring all award requirements and deliverables are met while adhering to University, Sponsor, State, and Federal policies.
** Duties and
Responsibilities include:
*** Supervising six Financial Analyst;
* Assisting in all elements of pre-award and post-award activity, including proposal preparation and responsibility for the fiscal administration of all contracts and grants awarded by federal, state, and other sponsors for departments.
* Ensure that all submissions forwarded to Central Offices are clear and comply with funding program priorities, including institution-wide and external policies.
* Assist in the adherence to and execution of budgets in accordance with University budget policies, sponsor requirements, and federal guidelines and regulations.
* Review and submit research proposals for other Financial Analysts.
* Responsible for the management of a complex portfolio including federal contracts that support the Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing station (CSTARS), the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (supported by NOAA), and the NSF Cooperative Agreement supporting the ship operations of the Walton Smith research vessel.
* Assist the Associate Director with the yearly fiscal budget as related to sponsored expenditures, faculty salaries, staff salaries, student support, and tuition.
* Create analytical tools and dashboards to more efficiently and effectively disseminate information to stakeholders. Implement processes, trainings, and support functions to garner engagement and usage of these tools by stakeholders.
* Develop and implement procedures to reduce administrative burden to faculty and maximize efficiencies.
* Develops and makes recommendations for appropriate policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with financial and administrative management requirements for the functional area/team.
* Ensure high-quality, efficient service to the academic community, and provide assistance in the planning and implementation of innovative customer service initiatives.
* Directly supervise a team of analysts with responsibilities including but not limited to facilitating budget preparation and variance analysis for projects, compilation of data for financial modeling, and award close-outs.
* Provides guidance, feedback, and direction to the School’s research administration staff.
* Responsible for creating and sustaining a collaborative work environment where personnel is treated respectfully, ethically and professionally at all times; responsible for building positive and productive relationships with colleagues at all levels and departments across campus.
* Performance, at the highest professional level, of all other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Business Officer.

* Qualifications:
*** A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Research Administration or related field is preferred.
* Demonstrated experience in management and leadership.
* A combination of a strong background with computer application systems, accounting, and financial analytical skills are critical.
* Minimum five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an academic setting.
* Experience in research administration is highly preferred.
* Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.
* Appreciation for organizational subtleties and a high level of discretion.
