Director, Purchasing

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for ensuring a continuous supply of assigned products at the best cost.

• Supervise and develop direct reporting Purchasing Managers into independent buyers who can autonomously lead their assigned categories and step in for the Director of Purchasing when required.
• Develop and manage relationships with assigned suppliers.
• Provide a continuous supply of competitively priced products on a regular and timely basis.
• Maintain good working relationships with Distribution Services Managers (DSMs).
• Negotiate with suppliers for each assigned product category.
• Develop and implement objectives for assigned product categories.
• Establish and monitor vendor capacity/distribution capabilities to ensure quality, cost, and service expectations are met.
• Stay informed about commodity market fundamentals and price projections to aid in informed RFP decisions; supervise case cost forecasting for finished goods to achieve optimal forecast accuracy.
• Conduct regular performance, business, and financial reviews.
• Negotiate and execute terms of agreement.
• Ensure compliance with contracting protocols and accuracy of Supply Agreements.
• Communicate marketing activities to appropriate suppliers.
• Align individual performance expectations with organizational goals.
• Develop performance goals collaboratively with direct reports and ensure they are clearly communicated and current.
• Provide fair, constructive, and timely feedback on performance expectations and goals.
• Offer assistance, guidance, and coaching support as needed.
• Ensure staff have professional development plans in place.
• Conduct performance evaluations according to established systems and policies.

A four‑year degree is required; a master’s degree is a plus. Must have at least four to six years of direct and relevant work experience.
