The purpose of this classification is to perform maintenance and/or repair works associated with various Public Works & Recreation projects as well as maintain parks, athletic fields and all related facilities.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Performs maintenance work involving various parks, public works and recreation projects within an assigned division/area, which may involve road/street construction maintenance, roadside maintenance, sign fabrication, pest control, building maintenance, parks maintenance, or other projects.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in projects and activities, which may include a dump truck, utility truck, bucket lift, tractor, sidewalk grinder, asphalt reclaimer, compactor, concrete mixer, mowing equipment, weed eater, edger, chipper/mulcher, leaf blower, hedge clipper, pressure cleaner, digital plotter, sign roller table, press, striping machine, torch, paint machine, chemical sprayer, chain saw, pole saw, table saw, miter saw, drill, drill press, asphalt cutting saw, jackhammer, sledgehammer, post driver, post hole digger, sod cutter, trencher, tiller, roller, hand tamper, pick ax, shovel, rake, pitchfork, box blade, broom, ladder, drafting instruments, artist’s instruments, concrete finishing tools, measuring devices, carpentry tools, mechanic tools, power tools, hand tools, base tool, pumps, vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, buffing machine, floor scrubber, water extractor, mop, cleaning supplies.
Hauls, transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects or at work sites. Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals, places safety cones, markers, or signs to alert employees/citizens of work areas, wet floors, or other potential hazards.
Maintains inventory and ensures availability of adequate equipment, tools, parts, supplies, or other materials needed to conduct projects including cleaning supplies and paper products for both the Town of Jupiter and contracted custodial vendor; communicates with custodial vendor and day porters to ensure adequate cleaning supply levels; orders, receives and stocks supplies as needed; ensures storage areas and equipment closets are clean, stocked, organized and free of debris or garbage;
assists in determining amount of materials needed to complete projects; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; purchases or picks up supplies/materials as needed.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, mosquito spraying charts, timesheets or other documents. Uses personal electronic device to log activities in the town’s work order system.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, schedules, work orders, maps, policies, procedures, operational guides, manuals, reference materials, material safety data sheets or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates with supervisor, town officials, the public, community organizations, other departments, community service workers, contractors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; responds to requests for service or assistance.
