The Legal Assistant II provides secretarial and caseload support for two (2) Assistant State Attorneys. The work schedule for this position is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (depending on assigned division, assigned trial support, and Judge court room hours). During the initial training period, the work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position offers a Limited Flexible Work Schedule and Teleworking Option.
The Job Responsibilities are:
- Preparing daily court, supplemental, and alias capias calendars
- Processing court calendar returns
- Preparing subpoenas, motions, and orders
- Ordering photos, body-worn cam videos, police reports, and other supporting documentation from additional agencies
- Distributing and organizing incoming/outgoing mail
- Completing requests for Assistant State Attorneys
- Maintaining Database
- Performing phone work and having contact with the public and law enforcement personnel
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Progressive Legal Assistant III Responsibilities include all expectations of a Legal Assistant II with the following additions:
- Providing Homicide Trial Support with active participation in the courtroom
- Preparing trial availabilities
- Witness coordination
- Conducting extensive phone work and having contact with the public and law enforcement personnel
- Coordinating travel arrangements for Division Chiefs, Expert Witnesses, and Civilian Witnesses
- Flexibility when preparing for trial, during trial, or important hearings
The Minimum Requirements are:
- One (1) year clerical experience*
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:
- Fluency in English and Spanish

*Please be advised the starting salary for this position is non-negotiable. After successfully completing a six (6) month probationary period with a “4” or a “5” rating on their performance evaluation, the selected candidate may be eligible for a promotion to a Legal Assistant III classification with a 5% pay increase.
