As a Program Aide in the Sports and Fitness program at The WOW Center, you'll work closely with Lead Instructors to support individuals as they participate in sports and health activities to facilitate communication, expression of emotions, physical and cognitive skills, self-awareness, and personal growth.
Desired Qualifications Education- High school diploma or higher (required)
- Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and classroom management abilities
- Computer literacy; experience with Therap software a plus
- Compassion, patience, and respect for individual differences
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Support Lead Instructors in carrying out daily program routines
- Assist with classroom management while ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all participants
- Step in to lead the classroom when the Instructor is unavailable
- Assist during emergencies and follow all safety procedures
- Help facilitate group and one-on-one activities that promote learning, independence, and skill development
- Assess individual needs and provide guidance to encourage participation in program activities
- Tailor instructional approaches to accommodate both individual and group settings
- Encourage active participation in activities
- Support program activities that promote healthy living, exercise, and physical fitness
- Assist in developing monthly instructional and lesson plans focused on healthy lifestyles
- Enable individuals to explore various exercise methods and physical activities
- Incorporate participation in sports, fitness routines, and structured movement activities
- Integrate use of the gym and multipurpose court into classroom routines
- Support individuals in maintaining healthy habits, including appropriate weight management and nutrition awareness
- Weigh individuals on a monthly basis and accurately record weights in designated logs
- Track attendance and maintain accurate daily records (e.g., bathroom breaks, therapies, field trips)
- Provide updates to social services staff regarding participant progress, behaviors, and health or safety concerns
- Support Therap data entry, documentation, and goal tracking
- Maintain fitness and program equipment and ensure safe, clean facilities
- Keep an updated inventory of equipment and report any maintenance or supply needs
