Research Assistant Professor - Community Engaged

The Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work 's mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of local, national, and global populations through education, research, and partnerships that are innovative and transformative. The college 's academic disciplines ' public health, dietetics and nutrition, social work, and disaster preparedness ' are advancing research and practices to realize this mission, bringing students and faculty to the forefront of their fields.

According to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, Stempel College ranks 15th in the nation for public health schools at public universities receiving National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Stempel College 's School of Public Health as No. 36 among public institutions and No. 55 among all institutions.

Located in Miami, FL, Stempel College faculty are working diligently to solve complex health and social welfare problems affecting a range of communities. Focal points include brain health, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular health, environmental health issues, substance use, and mental health.

The Center for Research on US Latino HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse (CRUSADA) is a community-engaged multidisciplinary research and training center dedicated to helping advance public health research and improving health in communities across South Florida and the United States. CRUSADA, established in 2003, focuses on a range of communicable and noncommunicable health conditions. CRUSADA has been awarded numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, including: 4 Center of Excellence grants (i.e., two P20, one P50, one U54 grants);

two S21 endowment grants; five R01 and two R24 grants; four K-awards; and eight F31 grants. CRUSADA faculty, students, and staff have produced over 300 papers in peer-reviewed publications and over 300 presentations in scientific conferences and meetings. The Community-Engaged Research Assistant Professor will contribute to CRUSADA research and training initiatives, working with CRUSADA faculty, staff, and trainees on various research projects.

Additionally, the Community-Engaged Research Assistant Professor is expected to prepare and submit manuscripts for publication, present research findings at local and national conferences, and develop and submit NIH grant proposals. Opportunities associated with this position include: formal mentorship, seminars, workshops, conferences, and other career development activities.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Doctoral degree in relevant discipline, including public health, psychology, and social welfare, or related biomedical, behavioral, or social science.
  • Prior experience in Latino health research in areas including substance use, mental health, sexual risk behaviors, and related consequences is preferred.
  • Track-record of scholarly publication.
  • Track-record of extramural funding.
  • Track-record of community-engaged research activities.
  • Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and data analyses.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, English) language strongly preferred
  • Strong research experience and written and oral communications skills
