SummaryRadiologic Technologist 1 is responsible for operating radiological equipment in diagnostic examinations across a clinic, emergency room, or main hospital laboratory. A related responsibility is assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures. Employees in this classification operate stationary and mobile X‑ray equipment, taking chest, body section, and other radiographs.
Responsibilities- Produce radiographs of chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other areas using X‑ray equipment in an emergency room, clinic, or hospital area.
- Position patients and take required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations.
- Adjust equipment at appropriate angles and heights and position patients appropriately for X‑ray examinations.
- Provide radiation protection in accordance with prescribed age‑specific safety standards.
- Compute technical factors, on an individual patient basis, to produce radiographs of proper detail, density and contrast to ensure good quality control.
- Transport patients to and from appropriate holding areas or other assigned areas.
- Operate portable X‑ray equipment, as assigned, performing chest or other examinations that must be completed at the bedside.
- Provide and use immobilization devices as required, while adhering to safety standards particular to the age‑specific needs of the patient.
- Assist radiologists or other medical specialists during fluoroscopy.
- Assist physicians in administering contrast materials.
- Maintain safety standards and assist supervisors in demonstration of techniques to radiologic technology students.
- Copy pertinent clinical information from Medical Record to radiology request form.
- Utilize appropriate HIS Computer System functions and follow through to record complete or incomplete procedures.
- Perform selected procedures in other areas of the radiology department when requested.
- Rotate within department, as required.
- Receive on‑the‑job training in specialized technical areas and attend department in‑service programs to learn the use of new equipment and/or advanced techniques.
- Follow appropriate infection control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions.
- Be responsible for the appearance of assigned radiographic room and cleaning of equipment and accessories.
- Perform basic duties in patient care, and initiate life‑supporting measures for patients, if necessary.
- Comply with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
- Possess and maintain an understanding of the principles of growth and development as they pertain to patients in all age populations.
- Assist registration as needed with assigned duties (quick registering, welcoming patients and bringing patients to treatment area).
- Attend a minimum of 80% of scheduled staff meetings.

- Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
EducationAssociate’s degree in Radiology Technology is required. For employees performing point‑of‑care testing in the Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi‑ER, Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology areas, the educational degree must be verified at the time of hire. Minimum education level required to be verified is associate’s degree.
