Shift details: Full Time, Wednesday to Wednesday (10‑hour shifts)

  • Wednesday – 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm
  • Thursday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Friday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Saturday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Sunday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Monday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Tuesday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Wednesday – 9:00 pm to 7:30 am
Summary

Pharmacy Technician 2 works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists and performs a variety of complex tasks, requiring advanced knowledge of technical pharmaceutical practices, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include high‑level assistance in compounding (both sterile and non‑sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and pharmaceutical supplies, and medication history review. The role may also involve training and coaching Pharmacy Technician 1.

Responsibilities
  • Replenish automated drug distribution machines following established procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with automated drug distribution machines.
  • Conduct sterile solution operations, ensuring adherence to sterile protocols, proper labeling, and quality controls.
  • Input data into the Hospital inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested.
  • Monitor pharmacy stock levels and coordinate supply and demand with users.
  • Dispense required medications and supplies following established procedures where point‑of‑care automated dispensing is not available.
  • Perform extemporaneous compounding and pre‑packaging under pharmacy policy and pharmacist supervision.
  • Serve as a preceptor to train Pharmacy Technician 1 on efficient and effective performance of duties.
  • Maintain quality and security of medication assets per established procedures.
  • Enter specialized data into the computer system related to specific activities.
  • Demonstrate service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise).
  • Complete additional related job duties as assigned.
  • For Emergency Department Medication History Technician assignments: accurately record medication histories, assist pharmacists, verify histories against medical records, collaborate with healthcare professionals, resolve discrepancies, and ensure patient safety.
Experience

Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education

High School diploma is required.

  • Capacity to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Understanding and following instructions.
  • Proficiency in job‑appropriate technology and software applications.

Credentials

Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI). Specialty certification is preferred.

  • Physical Requirements: Extended standing or walking; carrying objects weighing 21–50 lbs; moving objects 51–100 lbs with appropriate devices; frequent visual acuity for computer use.
  • Environmental Conditions: Fast‑paced environment with occasional high‑pressure or emergent situations; interaction with diverse populations; possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X‑Ray, chemical exposures, and other hospital hazards. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required. Reasonable accommodations available.
