The Department of Psychology at Jackson Health System is excited to announce a new position for a full‑time clinical psychologist to provide inpatient behavioral health services through the Adult Psychology Service, located at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital. Primary duties will involve provision of treatment for patients on the new State Civil Unit, which includes individuals who experience persistent, chronic and serious mental illness.
The incumbent will exercise responsibility for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a full range of comprehensive psychological programs and services, and will serve as a specialist in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals who have been admitted to the new State Civil Unit. The psychologist will select, administer and interpret a range of psychological assessments and procedures to guide patient care and treatment planning.
Serving as a key member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, the psychologist will make recommendations and work closely with the treatment team members in establishing long and short‑range goals for clients. Participates in the formulation and implementation of individual treatment plans, develops and implements formalized behavioral interventions and monitors patient progress towards goals.
Our department comprises over twenty licensed psychologists and is embedded within an academic teaching hospital. The chosen candidate will be a member of the training faculty at JBHH and will be involved in supervision of our APA‑accredited internship and fellowship trainees. The position also offers the opportunity to participate in clinical research and presentations for staff and at relevant national organizations.
PreferredCriteria
- Strong background in assessment and evidence‑based interventions with an inpatient population.
- Specialized knowledge in area of specialty, e.g., schizophrenia, psychological assessments, forensic psychology, treatment planning and behavior planning.
- Knowledge of principles of Positive Behavioral Support.
- Diagnoses or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment; interviews patients in clinics, hospitals, and other settings and studies medical and social case histories.
- Observes patients in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals with regard to test results.
- Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing evidence‑based psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and determines frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group/family therapies.
- Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment programs accordingly; communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
- Provides psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within hospitals, clinics, and other community‑based agencies with regard to clients and/or patient care.
- Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
- Participates in educational programs, in‑service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
- Supervises psychology fellows, interns and practicum students in accordance with APA requirements.
- May develop and implement clinical research programs.
- Supports and maintains existing standards of the Public Health Trust, the department and the profession.
- Documents treatment in accordance with JHS policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies that ensure patient confidentiality.
