Job Summary

MRI Technologist / Per diem / Flexible Shift / MRI at Jackson West Medical Center, Jackson Health System, Miami, FL. MRI Technologist performs skilled work in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, dealing with computerized scans and using complex equipment to complete specialized diagnostic studies.

Operates highly sophisticated Magnetic Resonance equipment, performing specialized diagnostic procedures to visualize parts and organs of the body. Performs dynamic and other scans of the head, chest, spine, abdomen, extremities as ordered, using correct imaging techniques. Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards and assists physicians when needed. Follows protocol for computer start‑up and shut down, reviews patient charts for laboratory results and allergies, and checks patient identification band before transporting or injecting a patient.

Uses immobilization devices as required while adhering to safety standards specific to age‑specific needs. Injects contrast material when approved by radiologist according to departmental protocol, practices universal precautions, monitors Dry View film process, communicates with and reassures patients, and performs basic patient care functions. Initiates life‑supporting measures for patients if necessary and maintains CPR certification. Provides holiday coverage and rotates on‑call coverage.

Demonstrates knowledge of HIS computer system, records complete procedures, detects and reports equipment malfunctions, completes laboratory records, and complies with all safety rules and regulations. Receives on‑job training, attends in‑service programs, reviews the CQI Quarterly Report, and contributes ideas for Quality Improvement. Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

• 3 to 5 years of related experience required.
• Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with additional MR training required.

• Valid Florida State license as a Radiology Technologist required.
• ARRT Certification required by 12/31/2017 for hires before 2/1/2017; new hires with external training must have certification at time of hire.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers with at least 6 months validity required.
• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge and skill in use of job‑appropriate technology and software applications.
• Must meet and maintain current unit‑specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licures, as required by the clinical area.

• Physical: extended standing or walking; can lift objects 21‑50 lb; can lift objects 51‑100 lb with appropriate devices; frequent visual acuity for computer use.
• Environmental: fast‑paced environment with occasional high‑pressure or emergent situations; exposure to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, and chemical hazards; must wear PPE when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
