The University of Miami UHealth Department of Interventional Radiology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Special Procedures Technologist 2 to work at Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami. The incumbent assists with day-to-day interventional radiology operations and complex procedures by operating radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images with minimal radiation exposure. The Special Procedures Technologist 2 provides imaging services to assist interventional physicians in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
The incumbent maintains efficient workflow of the section and promotes UCARE goals to achieve the highest quality care and customer service.
- Verifies the patient’s checking their name and date of birth. Corroborates patient’s clinical history and ensures information is documented and available for use.
- Assist with patient interviews before a procedure and documents all relevant information.
- Ensures that the attending radiologist obtains the proper informed consent.
- Prepares the patient for procedures to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
- Notifies appropriate person of any change(s) in patients’ status.
- Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and strictly practices aseptic technique.
- Assists the radiologist throughout procedures with all the necessary supplies.
- Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Positions the patient for the examination and obtains good technical quality scout film of the area before starting procedures.
- Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.
- Initiates life support measures for patients and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during medical emergencies.
- Maintains working knowledge of all patient monitoring devices.
- Provides patient education in collaboration with other department staff.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program. - Certification and Licensing:
Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer. ARRT registered. ARRT certified in Vascular Interventional Radiography required. CPR and BLS certification required. - Experience:
Three (3) years of relevant experience required.
