To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position using the Career worklet, please review this .The Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a full time Speech Pathologist Fellow - Head and Neck to work in Miami, FL.
The Speech Pathologist Fellow assesses and treats individuals referred with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments under the supervision of a licensed Speech Pathologist. The incumbent takes part in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, other clinical providers, and family members to provide evidence-based treatment approaches.
** The clinical fellowship period will start in June of 2026 and end in June of 2027. Please include a one-page personal statement and 3 letters of recommendation as an attachment when you apply through the Workday link. The Final date to receive applications is on Monday, February 9, 2026.
**** CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
*** Administers diagnostic assessments to individuals with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments.
* Develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials.
* Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling.
* Collaborates in a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, other clinical providers, and family members in the development and revision of treatment recommendations.
* Maintains current knowledge of new technologies and approaches in the field.
* Participates in ongoing continuing education opportunities within the department.
* Provides culturally responsive services with the understanding that growth in cultural competence is a lifelong journey.
* Utilizes electronic medical record and/or other documentation tools to detail patient interactions.
* Provides direct patient care interaction/encounters via approved telehealth platforms.
* Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
* Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

* Education:
** Master’s Degree in relevant field
** Certification and Licensing:
** Certification in relevant specialty or field

* Experience:
** Prior clinical rotations and/or externships in relevant acute care and/or outpatient facilities
** Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
*** Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
* Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
* Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
* Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
* Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

** DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
**** Department Specific Functions
*** Experience performing and interpreting modified barium swallow studies is required.
* Maintaining a caseload of speech, voice, and swallowing therapy patients with diverse diagnoses is required.
* Participation in a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment to provide comprehensive care to patients with head and neck cancer in both outpatient and acute care settings is required.
* Experience performing and interpreting flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing is preferred.
* Familiarity with rehabilitation following total laryngectomy, including tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis, use of an electrolarynx, and application of heat and moisture exchanger systems is preferred.
* Familiarity with the application of tracheostomy speaking valves is preferred.
* Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
