Why Holtz Children’s Hospital: Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States. It is renowned for its care of critically ill newborns, pediatric multi‑organ transplants, and children’s kidney failure and heart programs. The hospital trains the largest number of pediatric physicians in the southeastern United States.
Summary- The Sleep Technologist performs a variety of sleep studies to diagnose the type and extent of disorders and works closely with patients to determine therapy.
- Scores sleep data and prepares raw data for physician and/or research interpretation.
- If also a Registered Respiratory Therapist, may perform RRT duties under attending physician or CMO direction.
- Performs all types of sleep disorder testing, including nightly polysomnography (PSG) on most age groups.
- Prepares the laboratory and patient rooms for overnight data collection.
- Cleans equipment daily.
- Explains procedures to patients and establishes rapport.
- Maintains a comfortable and controlled laboratory environment during the patient’s stay.
- Summons a qualified medical supervisor immediately if an emergency arises and reports problem situations.
- Uses and troubleshoots diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
- Diagnoses minor deficiencies and reports major technical malfunctions.
- Adapts to changing workloads and completes tasks within expected time frames.
- Demonstrates understanding of the unique needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Participates in in‑service training programs within and outside the department.
- Demonstrates clinical competencies annually.
- Assists with daytime sleep studies such as Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT).
- Monitors machines and aids sleep specialists during studies.
- Helps diagnose, manage, and prevent sleep disorders.
- Demonstrates knowledge of polysomnography, MSLT, oximetry, supplemental O2, CPAP, and BIPAP studies, and fundamentals of sleep medicine.
- Takes vital signs accurately and recognizes cardiac arrhythmias.
- Performs all duties in accordance with AASM and Sleep Center quality guidelines.

- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Generally requires 2 years or more of related experience.
EducationAssociate degree in Polysomnography Technology is preferred.
Credentials- Registered Sleep Polysomnographic Technologist (RSPGT) certification is required.
- Additional certification as Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care is preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for healthcare providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
