The Criminal Investigations Division encompasses all law enforcement and forensic components within the Department of Financial Services. This advertisement is for the Bureau of Public Assistance Fraud for a Financial Crime Investigator I position which is a NON-SWORN position.

Training and qualifications:

Requirements:

  • A minimum of four (4) years of professional work experience in one or more of the following areas: criminal justice, law enforcement, conducting research/interviews, data analysis, investigations, financial auditing, or public assistance programs. A post-secondary degree may be used as an alternative on a year-for-year basis.
  • VALID Driver’s License from the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles by time of employment.

Preference:

  • Special consideration may be given to bilingual candidates who meet a critical agency need.

Interview: If selected for an interview, it will be conducted in person.

Selection process:

Selection is a three-to-six-month process. Applicants must PASSthe Physical Abilities Test, Oral and Written Exam, and CJSTC background prior to beginning.

The annual salary is $41,000. A CAD of $1,248 applies for positions in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties.

Employees are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Brief description of duties:

The Financial Crimes Investigator I is an entry level position supporting the mission to identify and eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse in public assistance programs, under the supervision of an Investigations Manager.

Duties include:

  • Administer oaths and serve subpoenas under Florida Statutes
  • Review case files and identify documentary evidence
  • Prepare investigative plans and gather information
  • Utilize data systems and interview targets and witnesses
  • Obtain statements and document investigative efforts
  • Apply relevant statutes and policies; prepare affidavits
  • Collaborate with the Investigations Manager on outcomes; cases may be referred to State Attorney or administrative processes
  • Provide testimony in court, depositions, and hearings

Training and administrative activities:

  • Complete required training programs and work with seasoned investigators
  • Follow departmental policies, document hours and expenses, and use case management systems
