Responsible for the planning and implementation of government and community affairs programs and special projects that support the strategic initiatives of the division and advance community outreach, rankings and the university's reputation.
- Assists the Vice President and Sr. Associate Vice President of Government and Community Relations in the overall daily functions and long‑term projects of the office.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with community representatives, university employees, government officials and staff, and public interest groups.
- Attend and monitor weekly county and city commission meetings as well as other assigned community events. Provides status reports on relevant information and/ or action items.
- Assists in coordinating activities associated with governmental relations locally. Provides support at functions, meetings and conferences. Maintains a high level of public relations when representing the government relations department.
- Tracks local legislation, initiatives and government programs that align with, and can support FIU priority initiatives.
- Aids on long‑ and short‑term projects assigned‑by the Sr. AVP of Government Affairs and/or the Vice President of Government Relations.
- Prepares or edits departmental publications for internal and external audiences.
- Provides recommendations to the Sr. AVP of Government Affairs regarding the office's strategic goals and objectives at the local level.
- Use initiative and judgment to see that matters requiring immediate attention are delegated to the proper authority or handled personally.
- Manages the Government and Community Relations team with strategic communications efforts. This includes managing lists of elected officials,assed staff, and key government contacts.
- Responsible for sending weekly Government and Community Affairs newsletter that provides information and opportunities to key constituents to engage with FIU. Manages alumni in office pages, and FIU alumni engagement via communications channels in partnership with the other Government and Community Affairs members.
- Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
- Provides coordination for targeted social media posts that advance the university's priorities, inform our constituents about key FIU initiatives and requests.
- Coordinates follow‑up with Government and Community Affairs leadership, and communications for visits in conjunction with the other Government and Community Affairs members.
- Supports partnerships with local government and key community partners in collaboration with colleagues in academic and central units.
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of relevant work experience.
Desired QualificationsExperience working with local county and municipal governments.
