Payroll Tax & Compliance Director
Working with a Miami‑based technology company that is expanding its South Florida team. This role supports the Controller and CFO in managing finance and accounting operations and offers a collaborative environment with great benefits and growth opportunities.
Responsibilities- Supervise, mentor, and train staff.
- File multistate payroll tax returns for federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Make timely deposits of taxes and file tax returns accurately.
- Assist clients with payroll tax related questions and issues, respond to inquiries, tax notices, and audit requests from taxing authorities.
- Research updated laws and regulations regarding taxes and withholding procedures.
- Communicate and reconcile records with internal staff, external vendors, and customers as needed.
- Verify implementation for new client, POA, EFT set up, YTD figures.
- Work with Payroll and Implementation Managers on check history uploads and YTD history.
- Handle daily tax deposit for multiple companies to multiple state tax agencies.
- Reconcile tax‑related transactions between payroll and tax systems.
- Recommend actions to resolve discrepancies and investigate questionable data.
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Manage and complete multiple projects and activities with strict time‑sensitive deadlines.
- Primary responsibility for Tax and Compliance.
- Experience and proficiency in utilizing payroll and accounting software.
- Knowledge of state and federal employment laws relating to key areas of payroll.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task.
- Ability to investigate, document, and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Ability to generate trust, build alliances with co‑workers, plan, staff, launch, and deliver multiple projects on time and within budget.
- Strong knowledge of Excel preferred.
- Eight or more years of formal education; undergraduate/graduate degrees are desirable but total experience and professional achievements are most important.
- Combination of public and private sector experience.
