Job Description

The Tax Senior, State and Local Tax – Unclaimed Property applies industry knowledge and experience to advise clients on the tax implications and other accounting matters that affect their business objectives, with an emphasis on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. The role requires strong project management, financial auditing, and analytical skills to manage client engagements, recommend alternate courses of action, and support compliance and audit defense.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify complex research needs, conduct thorough investigations, and prepare detailed research reports.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external tax and revenue authorities.
  • Gather, manipulate, and reconcile data to prepare annual escheat returns using tools such as FSI Track, BDO Global Portal, and other systems.
  • Develop and deliver memoranda, opinions, and other documentation on escheat issues.
  • Represent clients in unclaimed property audits and voluntary disclosures.
  • Assist with due diligence letter processing, client payment processing, and exam support.
  • Prepare exposure quantification models and perform remediation procedures.
  • Manage client expectations and project multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Participate in marketing, networking, and business development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance (required).
  • Two or more years of tax, financial statement auditing, or forensic accounting in a public accounting firm or in-house organization (required).
  • CPA, attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) required; experience with Power BI, Alteryx, and other data‑analytics software preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, research, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline‑driven environment and work independently.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with tax research databases, FSI Track, and GL systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.).
  • Capability to lead a team of tax professionals and delegate assignments.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with internal and client personnel.

Compensation

National Range: $73,500 – $131,250. Maryland: $73,500 – $131,250. NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $73,500 – $131,250. Washington DC: $73,500 – $131,250.
