The Work You Will Do

Traffic Specialist IV-Safety, District Six Traffic Operations

This position directly contributes to the Department’s mission toward our Target Zero goal. Our mission is to continually improve the safety of Florida's traveling public and FDOT employees by reducing transportation‑related fatalities and severe injury crashes to zero. The role investigates location‑specific and conducts systemic safety analyses to identify safety improvement needs and design countermeasures to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.

It also collaborates with education, enforcement, and emergency services to increase the effectiveness of our engineering efforts, and works with communities to identify and help resolve traffic safety concerns.

Annual Salary Range

$66,399.20 – $85,928.37
A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.

Your Specific Responsibilities
  • Develop and review engineering reports and studies, including preparing and disseminating the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) tracking reports, study documentation, presentations of findings, and analysis of engineering data.
  • Develop and manage professional and contractual service contracts, and other types of agreements that support traffic operations, including project management, procuring contracts, issuing task work orders, reviewing deliverables, processing invoices, coordinating department personnel and agencies, preparing correspondence, maintaining project files, and attending project meetings.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, task teams, and other groups with internal and external customers to represent traffic engineering interests and provide commentary and review of work products, developing correspondence and follow‑up contact as needed.
  • Assist the District Traffic Safety Program Engineer with coordinating project production with the Department’s Work Program, ensuring project schedule and control are efficiently managed.
  • Assist the Traffic Safety Program Engineer in implementing business and related plans to guide resource allocation and achieve unit performance targets, collaborating on plan development, reporting results, linking performance targets to SMART objectives, and making resource recommendations.
