Position Summary

The Electrical Field Service Engineer supports company’s commercial maritime operations by planning and executing complex technical field assignments involving the installation, modification, commissioning, testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of marine propulsion and power systems. This role provides advanced technical expertise in shipboard electrical systems, propulsion drives, and integrated marine control systems, primarily within dry‑dock and active vessel environments. The position requires strong leadership capability, independent decision‑making, and direct customer interaction to ensure safe, reliable, and high‑quality project execution.

Key Responsibilities Field Engineering & Technical Duties
  • Plan and execute field service assignments related to marine propulsion and power systems.
  • Install, modify, test, repair, inspect, and commission electrical equipment and integrated systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and control system failures.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct system testing, inspections, and performance verification.
  • Lead field activities ranging from routine service work to highly complex technical projects.
Project Coordination & Leadership
  • Coordinate work with internal teams and customer representatives to meet project commitments.
  • Act as Site Lead or Site Manager on designated projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior personnel and customers.
  • Monitor field service hotline and support emergency response activities as required.
  • Adapt to changing project priorities and unforeseen technical challenges while maintaining schedule performance.
Customer Interface & Business Support
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to customers.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and customer optimization.
  • Support sales and account management teams with technical input for proposals and quotations.
  • Represent company professionally during customer meetings, conferences, and technical discussions.
  • Maintain strong customer relations and promote long‑term business partnerships.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and maritime safety requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable classification society and shipyard standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, etc.).
  • Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
  • Properly use required PPE and maintain a safe and organized work area.
Quality & Documentation
  • Perform work in accordance with ISO 9001 quality principles and company procedures.
  • Prepare service reports, technical reports, inspection documentation, and commissioning records.
  • Complete timesheets, expense reports, and job documentation in a timely manner.
  • Report non‑conformances, technical issues, and improvement opportunities to management.
  • Ensure quality control standards are upheld during field operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial electrical systems operations and maintenance.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with marine propulsion systems, preferably in dry‑dock or cruise ship environments.
  • Field service experience in a client‑facing capacity.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of marine propulsion, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
  • Ability to make decisive technical judgments under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75%, including international assignments.
  • Ability to work extended hours and remain on call as required.
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 10 or 30
  • NFPA 70E Training
  • Marine Classification Society familiarity (ABS, DNV, etc.)
  • OEM Propulsion or Drive System Certifications
