District Six/District Safety
This position inspects Department buildings, grounds, equipment, and field operations to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, codes, statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures regarding industrial safety and health. It will also provide on-the-job training and coordinate the training of employees on safety-related activities.

Your Specific ResponsibilitiesInspects Department buildings, grounds, equipment, and field operations for all assigned areas to identify unsafe acts and conditions to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, codes, statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding industrial safety and health programs. Issues orders to shut down activities when judgement indicates that imminent danger to life and/or property exists. Reports findings of these inspections and recommends the appropriate corrective action to the responsible Cost Center Manager.
Ensures that the noted deficiencies are corrected.
Investigates crashes and personal injuries involving Department personnel and equipment by inspecting the crash site and other contributing factors. Reports the cause of these harmful events and identifies the corrective action that may prevent recurrence. Reviews, edits and/or returns for correction injury and/or accident reports that are prepared within assigned area. Develops and promulgate crash and injury trend analyses with recommendations for improvement.
Provides on-the-job training and coordinates the training of employees on safety-related activities within assigned areas. Prepares, maintains, and submits training reports. Assists in the development of Individual Training Plans to ensure that each employee in assigned area is properly trained to comply with the various industrial safety and health programs.
Coordinates the Hazardous Materials Program to ensure that employees involved are trained in the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with relevant laws, codes, statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Inspects hazardous materials storage areas to ensure that fire protection is adequate. Ensures that employees in assigned area are properly trained in the selection and use of personal protective equipment and supervisors have trained their subordinates in the use of Safety Data Sheets.
Coordinates in coordination with the District Emergency Operations Center (EOC) hazardous material spill response, including containment of spilled hazardous material, notification of authorities, evacuation of nonessential personnel, and the clean up and disposal of the…
