Safety Management System (SMS) Coordinator - 18128

Description

Summary The SMS Coordinator contributes to the continuous improvement of safety at AAR Windsor by supporting the management of its Safety Management System (SMS). The role is responsible for performing functions related to the SMS, such as investigations and audits supporting the overall program. This role will be required to work closely and coordinate with the Chief Inspector, Health & Safety Coordinator and Continuous Improvement Specialist.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the SMS reporting system and related documentation.
  • Assist all investigators and auditors through the SMS process.
  • Conduct investigations of safety‑related incidents/accidents and hazards as required.
  • Conduct audits of the effectiveness of corrective action taken to remedy safety incidents/accidents and hazards as required.
  • Monitor and analyze trends in SMS program and make recommendations to the Director of Safety and Continuous Improvement.
  • Contribute to management review of the SMS.
  • Develop and disseminate safety‑related documentation including SMS Bulletins, Maintenance Alerts, monthly status reports, SMS Committee meeting minutes.
  • Administer company safety surveys and analysis of survey results.
  • Support SMS and associated training for staff.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems.
  • Actively participate in the Safety Management System (SMS), including reporting safety hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand and promote the company safety policy.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement and Health & Safety teams as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Licenses, Professional Designation, Certification or Courses required

Minimum college diploma in a related field and/or related work experience.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Minimum 2‑3 years experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent working knowledge of FAA requirements for a safety management system considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with aircraft maintenance operations considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of investigation, root cause and trend analysis methods.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility. The environmental characteristic for this position is an office setting but will require direct production environment interaction. Candidates should be able to adapt to either environment.
