The Director of Decarbonization leads strategic and technical initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across cruise operations. The role will support the refinement and execution of the company's decarbonization roadmap, ensuring cross-brand alignment with sustainability and financial objectives.

Operating in a dynamic organization and evolving regulatory landscape, the Director of Decarbonization collaborates with fuel planners, technical experts, and policy/regulatory leads to synthesize insights and influence capital and human resource allocation towards decarbonization objectives. The role will chair the cross-brand Decarbonization Working Group, support the development and execution of energy efficiency programs, and work on adoption of alternative fuels. Success in this high‑visibility role requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical capacity, strategic vision, and cross‑functional leadership.

Key Responsibilities Lead the cross-brand Decarbonization Working Group:
  • Chair a cross‑functional team of Directors and VPs to align on decarbonization priorities
  • Set agendas, drive follow‑through on action items, and foster strategic alignment
  • Provide technical insights
Development and implementation of energy efficiency programs:
  • Influence multi‑million‑dollar capital decisions
  • Align investment direction across eight brands
  • Conduct cost‑benefit analysis, track performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement
Adoption of alternative fuels:
  • Evaluate alternative fuels for feasibility, impact, and regulatory implications
  • Coordinate with fuel planners and fuel sourcing on demand planning and reporting tools
  • Advise regulatory and finance teams on fuel‑related risks and opportunities
Emerging Technologies, Pilot Programs, and R&D:
  • Support the evaluation, testing, and validation of emerging technologies
  • Support lifecycle assessments, emissions modeling, and scenario planning
  • Promote innovation and adaptability in response to evolving regulatory conditions
Regulatory and industry engagement:
  • Interpret and assess the impact of maritime decarbonization regulations
  • Represent the company in industry forums and regulatory consultations
  • Advocate for practical, forward‑looking policies that support the cruise industry’s transition to net zero
Qualifications
  • Degree in naval architecture, engineering, or other quantitative discipline.
  • 10+ years’ experience in marine, technical, engineering, or similar.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General understanding of cruise operations.
  • Strong analytical capacity with an ability to translate insights into business decisions.
  • In‑depth knowledge of maritime decarbonization pathways, including alternative fuels (e.g., LNG, methanol, hydrogen, etc.), energy efficiency technologies, and emissions regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives in ambiguous and evolving environments.

This position is classified as “in‑office.” As an in‑office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
