The Packaging Engineer I role is part of the Package Engineering Center of Excellence located in Miami, FL (Kendall site) and will be an on‑site position utilizing two fully outfitted test labs. You will report to the Package Engineering Manager and be responsible for developing package designs, distribution testing, technical documentation, and materials sustainment for Consumables and Instruments.
Responsibilities- Provide packaging support for internal and external customers, globally.
- Participate in analysis and resolution of packaging issues using Problem‑Solving methodology.
- Write technical test protocols, reports, engineering drawings and ensure manufacturing/packaging documents are created, updated and in compliance with company standards.
- Support release of new and enhancements to existing product packaging.
- Define packaging materials, with a focus on waste reduction.
- Work with current package designs and explore packaging and labeling technologies supporting new development projects.
- Coordinate the release of new and enhanced product packaging; participate in design reviews and inspection processes.
- Hands‑on with product pack‑out for testing and cycling through different test sequences (environmental and distribution testing).
- Write final package test reports.
- Track project schedules and implement minor‑to‑moderate package design changes as needed, testing and verifying changes before release.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Materials Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 0–1 year experience in a related FDA‑regulated field.
- Experience in technical writing, ISO and GMP documentation, as required.
- Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be organized, detail‑oriented and capable of handling up to 50 pounds.
- Strong task management skills, able to multitask and follow directions.
- Proficiency in using local and global packaging testing standards based on ASTM and ISTA.
- Experience with hands‑on distribution testing per ASTM and/or ISTA.
- CAD software experience or similar.
- Cold Chain/Thermodynamics experience or knowledge.
- Ability to exercise judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate action.
- Experience working with product in the lab moving through test sequences.
