Overview

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Senior Space Planner to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Senior Space Planner provides a single point-of-contact for geography-related planning questions, including recommending and enforcing space policies, standards, procedures, and protocols. The Senior Space Planner supports the occupancy planning staff by participating in day-to-day functions and providing mentorship to junior staff members.

Core

Responsibilities
  • Maintains, verifies, and reports on space data and drawings, including space allocation.
  • Leads development of preliminary program requirements for assigned department.
  • Develops migration plans and sequencing of group moves and relocations.
  • Assists in developing site‑specific planning strategies with senior leadership.
  • Helps to accurately maintain the database and common data elements, and completes occasional bulk data updates.
  • Pulls quality assurance reports on a regular basis.
  • Formulates and modifies space plans using AutoCAD.
  • Coordinates with project staff to understand and communicate on specific space requirements and constraints.
  • Adheres to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
  • Prepare reports and analyses involving quantitative and qualitative interpretation of data for internal and external constituencies including departments, UHealth/MSOM task forces, and Federal and State agencies.
  • Conduct space audits, surveys and planning studies for all UHealth/MSOM areas and at all campuses; report and document any inappropriate use of space to the Director as these studies are being conducted and recommend corrective action; implement such corrective action and ensure completion.
  • Regularly consult with Deans, Department Directors, Vice Presidents, and others at varying levels to coordinate and complete internal and external surveys to gather data and obtain planning and programming information.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for space policies and procedures; consult with other institutions and organizations on practices and policies regarding space utilization trends. Promote these standards throughout the institution.
  • Evaluate improvement opportunities for existing drawing, data management systems, and for metrics available to analyze space (research and non‑research) and provide recommendations.
  • Work closely with the other members of the Medical Space Planning team to develop new processes for allocating space among UHealth/MSOM departments in a structured and consistent manner. Based on findings make recommendations to the Director on how to allocate and reassign space.
  • Monitor the integrity of, verify, and update space data and CAD drawings from information gathered through surveys and other means.
  • Develop, organize, and conduct training sessions on the use of the UHealth’s space management system.
  • Generate test fits for space and relocation projects in graphic and tabular form. Prepare supporting documentation for relocations; integrate principles of efficient space utilization into proposals.
  • Document and gather all data obtained through the verification process and prepare comprehensive reports; analyze and understand the implications/assumptions of the space data being reported.
  • Develop and/or modify database queries and generate reports for special projects and in response to user requests.
  • Serve as departmental liaison to other UHealth/MSOM departments, committees, and task forces.
  • Provide support to project managers and other team members as needed.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends and best practices in space management software and CAD capabilities.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a relevant field. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience preferably in a university academic medical center setting. Associate degree or certification in Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) and experience utilizing space management software are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
