The Student Life Specialist develops, implements, and supports the program in helping students achieve academic success and enhance their personal and educational development.
What you will be doing- Serves as the Student Government Association (SGA) advisor
- Attends all official meetings, related conferences, retreats and events (including evening and weekends) as appropriate
- Travels in evening hours and/or weekends
- Advises and coordinates activities of the SGA that are part of the Government’s official function on campus
- Assists the SGA members with planning and operation of SGA
- Advises members on individual and committee basis of the planning and operation of Student Life Councils including the Council of Student Organizations (CSO) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and SGA
- Works with students to set short and long-term goals for the CSO, CAB and SGA
- Oversees assigned budget and financial transactions
- Selects students to participate in CSO, CAB and SGA related activities and travel
- Assists with operation of the MDC card program and distribution of student parking decals
- Assists with general operation of the department, supporting day, evening and/or weekend activities
- Prepares reports regarding SGA events
- Processes payroll time and attendance for the department
- Processes financial transactions such as disbursement request and departmental requisitions
- Serves on Campus and College committees as appointed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience in a student services college environment or related function; or Associates degree with seven (7) years of experience in a student services college environment or related function
- All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Possess excellent supervisory, leadership, organizational, and problem solving skills
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Ability to promote and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under limited time constraints
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments, external contractors and vendors, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends
