Supports the College Life Coaching (CLC) Program within the Office of Academic Support Initiatives & Services (OASIS). Works with the CLC Program Director in providing support to retention initiatives through fostering student relationships to ensure student progress toward graduation. Provides coaching to students on an ongoing basis, as a complement to academic advising, and refers students to additional resources as needed.
Responsibilities- Works directly with a student caseload on topics related to achieving academic success while building trust with and demonstrating respect to each student.
- Applies a student- and solution-focused approach, helps students improve their study habits, time management skills, or address any other academic-related issues. Supports students in order to collaboratively identify the goals, create objectives and establish an individualized plan.
- Documents and maintains individual case notes and contact attempts for each student.
- Utilizes knowledge of university policies, procedures, and requirements to help students find solutions to their concerns, and/or successfully refer students to the appropriate office.
- Responds to student concerns in a timely manner.
- Acts as a liaison between students and administrative or academic units.
- Assists in creating and facilitating CLC workshops and projects to further enhance and increase the resource base supporting at‑risk FIU students.
- Assists the Program Director in CLC projects to further enhance and increase the resource base supporting at‑risk FIU students.
- Engages in professional development opportunities in order to continue ongoing improvement of coaching skills and student service.
- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree.
- Previous experience advising or coaching college students including those transitioning to college.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with success coaching models and techniques.
