Position OverviewThe Part-Time Lab Instructor provides academic support in the delivery of instruction and assists students in non-transfer credit Speech and Writing Labs.
What you will be doing- Provides orientation to students at the beginning of each semester on lab policies and requirements, and guides students to use software for educational, academic purposes
- Plans and coordinates the use of equipment and materials for learning activities
- Provides instructional assistance for improving proficiency in listening-speaking, writing, grammar and accent reduction to students in EAP Speech and Writing Labs
- Provides tutoring and assistance to foreign language student for successful completion of lab program
- Provides lab instruction and academic support through tutorials, lectures and demonstrations to students
- Tailors lab instruction and resources to meet specific needs of students
- Designs, teaches, supervises and marks lab assignments
- Develops workshops and/or group improvement sessions for speech and writing skills practice and development
- Provides feedback and recommendations to the Lab Manager and Department Chairperson on the effectiveness of current and proposed lab software and resources
- Coordinates lab instruction and content with full-time and adjunct classroom Faculty
- Provides regular feedback to classroom Faculty on student performance in the labs, including specific needs and areas for improvement
- Supports Lab Manager in delivery of lab instructional objectives and daily overall operation of facilities
- Provides documentation of student progress
- Generates student reports for final grade input
- Documents and reports inoperative program(s), computer malfunction(s), lab incidents and complaints
- Provides support with registration and basic advisement
- Attends trainings and required meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English Literature, or other related field from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of teaching experience or tutoring experience
- Bilingual; fluency in a language other than English
- All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Possess an aptitude for teaching and interest in working with students who are learning English as a second language
- Knowledge of computer applications and educational technologies for academic support
- Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
