Overview

The Peggy and Harold Katz Family Drug Discovery Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine seeks a 12-months full time faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor on the research track. The selected candidate will have established interest in performing innovative research focused on investigating the role of lipids and lipid metabolism in renal diseases of metabolic and non-metabolic origin.

The faculty member will engage in teaching, service and scholarship, work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to enhance kidney health and disease prevention. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Key Responsibilities Research Leadership
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects focusing on kidney disease mechanisms and therapeutic interventions. Develop and implement research methodologies, analyze data, and interpret results to contribute to the scientific literature.
Grant Funding
  • Actively seek and secure external funding through competitive grants to support research initiatives. Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring alignment with the center’s goals and priorities.
Mentorship and Education
  • Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral research fellows in research projects, fostering their academic growth and skills. Contribute to the educational mission of the Katz Center by teaching courses related to nephrology, molecular biology, physiology, and research methodologies.
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with faculty, clinicians, and researchers within the Katz Center and affiliated institutions to promote interdisciplinary research and enhance the center's impact. Participate in collaborative research efforts and contribute to joint publications and presentations.
Community Engagement
  • Engage with community outreach programs on kidney health education and disease prevention. Build partnerships with healthcare providers and organizations to facilitate the translation of research findings.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Biological Sciences or a related discipline. Demonstrated research expertise in lipid biology, lipid metabolism and/or translational research focused on kidney diseases with a strong publication record in reputable journals. Comprehensive understanding of mass spectrometry, lipidomics and metabolomics is a plus. Experience in securing research funding and managing research projects.
  • Proven teaching and mentoring experience, committed to fostering student success. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
