Position Overview
The Early Head Start (EHS) Teacher works as a part of the EHS teaching team to provide developmentally appropriate activities in a safe, nurturing, and high-quality early childhood program. The position promotes the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of infants and toddlers while partnering with families and maintaining a healthy learning environment.
This is a temporary position.
What you will be doing
- Provides responsive care to support children's social and emotional well-being
- Assists with planning and executing developmentally appropriate environments, daily routines, and activities that encourage exploration and learning
- Conducts regular observations and screenings to monitor developmental progress
- Maintains a clean, organized, and secure classroom environment that meets health and safety standards
- Engages families as active partners in their child's development through ongoing communication, conferences, and resources
- Establishes consistent routines, structure, and organization to ensure smooth classroom operations
- Follows all policies, procedures, and requirements set forth by Miami Dade College, Head Start Performance Standards, and funding agencies
- Participates in required trainings, professional development sessions, and reflective supervision to maintain and improve job performance
- Works cooperatively with co-teachers, leadership, and support staff to ensure quality program delivery
- Uses basic computer skills to document observations, assessments, and daily records
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Associate's degree in early childhood education (ECE) a related field and National Child Development Associate (CDA), Florida Child Care Professional Certificate (FCCPC), or equivalent credential and prior experience working with infants and toddlers in a group setting preferred or have completed the Miami Dade College Apprenticeship Program for Teacher Assistant
- DCF 45 hours training must begin within the first 60 days of employment. All DCF 45 hours must be completed one year from the date the training began including passing competency exams
- Employee in this position is required to maintain the following in current and active status:
Forty-five (45) hours of Professional Development each fiscal year (July/June), valid First Aid in Early Care and Adult-Child-Infant CPR certificate, a valid Florida DCF Staff Credential and valid DCF Clearance Letter - All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Understanding of infant and toddler developmental milestones and best practices in early childhood education
- Knowledge of implementing and adapting High Scope curriculum for infants and toddlers
- Awareness of state and federal safety, health, and licensing requirements, including EHS Program Performance Standards
- Knowledge of tools and methods for observing, screening, and assessing young children's development
- Understanding the importance of respecting and incorporating diverse family cultures and backgrounds into teaching
- Ability to establish and maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with children, families and team members
- Skill in working as part of a teaching team to plan and deliver effective programming
- Basic computer skills for documentation, accessing resources and record-keeping
- Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
- Show commitment to personal growth and ongoing professional development
- Ability to work well with students, faculty and staff
