Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is a national leader in integrating community-based medical education and clinical care. The College of Medicine is also an academic and clinical affiliate of Baptist Health and Nicklaus Children's Hospital.

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) seeks applicants for an open rank appointment as Assistant/Associate Dean for Professional Development and Continuing Medical Education, within the Office of Academic Affairs. Along with our partners at Baptist Health, FIU-HWCOM is in the early stages of launching a graduate medical education program with plans for over 20 ACGME accredited programs and over 300 trainees.

This leadership role will be pivotal in setting the vision and direction for professional development of our clinical faculty as they take on formal teaching roles. The successful candidate will also oversee faculty development for our undergraduate medical education teaching faculty and all continuing medical education (CME) activities.

The Assistant/Associate Dean for Professional Development and Continuing Medical Education will work with faculty and staff in the Office of Professional Development and Continuing Medical Education to design and deliver processes, programs, and tools supporting professional growth and scholarship, including live and virtual sessions, interactive workshops, online resources, and personalized development activities.

The Assistant/Associate Dean for Professional Development and Continuing Medical Education will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop systems for evaluating teaching and learning environments, supporting continual improvement efforts, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. The candidate will create programs to support faculty in developing research skills and increasing scholarly productivity, ensure faculty development programs meet LCME and ACGME requirements, and maintain data necessary for accreditation and continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an MD or PhD degree and at least five years of experience as a faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. A minimum of three years of experience in academic/educational leadership or equivalent experience is required.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in faculty development within medical education; experience with LCME and ACGME accreditation standards; excellent oral and written communication skills; proven experience in being able to work collaboratively with other Departments, administrators, and university stakeholders; and evidence of a commitment to mentoring and developing faculty.
