Title: Saturday Academy Associate Instructor, ELA
Reports To: Senior Manager of Teaching and Learning
FLSA: Part‑time, Seasonal
Location: Miami‑Dade County, FL (Remote)
Compensation: $40 per hour (fixed, competitive rate)

Position Overview

Associate Instructors join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college‑prep curriculum for motivated high‑school students. They co‑teach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini‑lessons, organize small‑group and one‑on‑one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. Instructors cover when an instructor is absent and do not have grading responsibilities. The program is 100 % online, facilitated through Zoom, with an emphasis on technology‑enabled learning.

Dates, Times, and Hours
  • Self‑guided Asynchronous Instructor Training: 10 hours of training to be completed at your convenience before program start.
  • Instructor Orientations: 02/05, 5:30‑8:00 pm
  • Synchronous Online Instruction (Saturday Academy): 8:45 am‑2:15 pm
    • February: 21, 28
    • March: 7, 21
    • April: 4, 11, 18
    • May: 2, 9, 16
  • Asynchronous Academic Support:
    • Office hours and meet‑ups with Scholars as needed.
    • Wednesday 6‑7 pm (select weeks):
      • 9‑10th Grade (various dates in February‑May)
Key Responsibilities
  • Instruction & Facilitation:
    Co‑teach 3‑4 periods including ELA and Advisory; lead classes independently when covering.
  • Navigate Instructional Technologies:
    Learn and efficiently use Brightspace, Nearpod, Google Workspace, and Zoom Chat in a blended learning environment.
  • Content Preparation:
    Read, internalize, and practice lesson plans before teaching; adjust pacing and activities based on student needs.
  • Tutoring and Academic Support:
    Host open‑door lunch tutoring sessions to review skills, address missed work, or develop new skills.
  • Classroom Culture:
    Project an energetic, engaging, approachable persona to foster student connection and positive community relationships.
  • Collaboration:

    Attend scheduled meetings, professional development trainings, check‑ins, and debriefs; respond to emails and Zoom chats promptly.
  • Coaching and Feedback:
    Meet with assigned instructional coach at least twice during the semester to receive and implement feedback.
  • Weekly

    Hours:

    Up to 10 hours per week (Standard and Flex Hours). Standard Hours are Saturdays 8:45‑2:15 pm;
    Flex Hours are asynchronous preparation and support work.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Teaching certification, K‑12 classroom experience, and/or college/university level teaching experience.
  • Comfortable with and skilled at navigating technological learning systems.
  • Understanding and practice of student‑centered pedagogy.
  • Experience working with high‑school‑aged students.
  • Expertise and depth of knowledge in advanced high‑school‑level ELA or Humanities.
  • Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing the historical and ongoing causes of societal ills and challenges.

Preferred:

  • Secondary Education Degree and Certification.
  • Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Certifications, PD course completions, and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies.
Compensation

Associate Instructors are compensated at $40 per hour. The position averages 10 hours per week. The reported compensation reflects SEO’s belief at the time of posting; it may be adjusted based on the applicant’s skills, qualifications, and position requirements. This position is benefits‑ineligible under local, state, and federal regulations.
