SUMMARY OF
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled physician dedicated to newborn medicine and pediatric hospital care. The per‑diems hospitalist will provide coverage as needed to ensure the division maintains uninterrupted care for patients admitted in the General Pediatrics wards and Mother‑Baby units at Holtz Children’s Hospital. Our pediatric hospitalists deliver comprehensive care for healthy newborns in our Mother‑Baby units, serving either on an attending‑only service or on a teaching service that includes pediatric residents, rotating residents, and University of Miami medical students.
In addition to newborn medicine, our team also provides coverage for general inpatient services, all of which are designated as teaching services.
Job Responsibilities Clinical Care
- Provide direct inpatient care to healthy newborns in the Mother‑Baby Units, including performance and interpretation of standard newborn screening tests and application of high‑risk protocols for infants with identified risk factors.
- Escalate care appropriately and involve pediatric subspecialists based on clinical findings.
- Provide direct care to pediatric patients admitted to general inpatient pediatric units.
- Serve as the attending physician for the general pediatric inpatient service, which functions as a teaching service.
- Conduct family‑centered rounds and maintain effective, compassionate communication with families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide consultation services for hospitalized pediatric patients on any service as needed.
- Perform perioperative optimization for pediatric patients at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
- Document all clinical findings, decisions, and actions in accordance with institutional standards and ensure timely communication with families, staff, and care teams.
- Supervise and teach pediatric residents, rotating residents, and medical students on the Mother‑Baby Units and general pediatric inpatient services.
- Model evidence‑based practice, promote clinical reasoning, and support the educational mission of the division.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including monitoring outcomes and supporting protocol updates to improve patient care and safety.
- Contribute to divisional and departmental committee work as assigned.
- Engage in academic activities, including quality, safety, educational projects, or administrative initiatives aligned with the division’s mission.
- Valid Medical Degree
- Board‑Certified or Board‑Eligible in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Hospital Medicine
- Valid and unrestricted Florida Medical License or eligible to apply
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must maintain CME to meet institutional and state licensing requirements.
- Must have excellent clinical knowledge and experience to provide safe and quality care to patients and meet institutional standards of care.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with staff, patients, and family members.
- Must demonstrate the ability to meet responsibilities of the position.
- Must be able to physically respond when on‑call.
- Hospital maintains safety and infection control programs in place to reduce risk to employees.
