Works Closely With:Production Team, Campus Worship Leaders, Band & Vocal Teams
OverviewCOOL Church is seeking a
Part-Time Music Director
to help lead and strengthen the musical excellence of our worship ministry. This role exists to build confident, prepared worship teams by providing musical leadership, arrangement support, and rehearsal direction so that every service is worshipful, unified, and distraction-free.
The ideal candidate is a skilled musician with strong
music theory knowledge, band experience, orchestration ability, and production awareness
, who can lead teams with humility, clarity, and joy.
- Provide musical direction for weekend worship services and special events.
- Ensure band and vocal teams are musically prepared, unified, and confident.
- Support worship leaders by strengthening musical structure, transitions, and arrangements.
- Lead or support weekly rehearsals with clear expectations, coaching, and musical excellence.
- Develop band members through constructive feedback, training, and consistent standards.
- Help build a culture of teamwork, preparedness, and spiritual unity within the worship ministry.
- Apply strong music theory skills to support chord structure, voicings, harmonies, and musical dynamics.
- Create and refine arrangements that serve congregational worship and match COOL Church’s style.
- Assist with building chord charts, lead sheets, and musical resources for teams.
- Support orchestration needs for special moments (strings, tracks, auxiliary instruments, layered arrangements).
- Help develop musical textures that elevate worship while maintaining simplicity and clarity.
- Coordinate additional instrumentation when needed for conferences, holidays, or major events.
- Work closely with the Production team to ensure worship sets are technically supported (tracks, stems, cues, click, playback).
- Assist with Ableton/track production workflows as needed.
- Support smooth transitions between musical and technical execution during live worship.
- Assist with band scheduling coordination and musician readiness in partnership with worship leadership.
- Communicate rehearsal expectations, resources, and updates clearly and consistently.
- Worship teams are prepared, confident, and unified each week.
- Musical arrangements enhance congregational worship without unnecessary complexity.
- Rehearsals are efficient, encouraging, and marked by excellence.
- Production and musical elements work together seamlessly in live environments.

Required
- Strong proficiency in music theory and practical band leadership.
- Experience directing or playing in live worship or professional band settings.
- Ability to create arrangements, coach musicians, and lead rehearsals.
- Understanding of worship production environments (click, tracks, cues, live mixing collaboration).
- Strong communication skills and a servant-hearted leadership posture.
- Alignment with COOL Church mission and staff values.
- Availability for Sundays and rehearsals.
- Experience with orchestration or layered instrumentation.
- Familiarity with Ableton Live, Multitracks, Planning Center, or similar tools.
