The Fuel and Energy Buyer supports the procurement and operational management of marine bunker fuels for over 95 cruise vessels operating in over 800 global destinations. The role will encompass global supply of all compliant marine fuels in a high-pressure, highly regulated, fast paced volatile commodity market—directly contributing to the safe and efficient bunker of all ships. This role focuses on accurate order processing, spot purchasing, contract administration, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
The position requires strong attention to detail, compliance with established procedures, and effective communication to ensure timely fuel delivery and cost optimization. After initial training, the role includes rotational 24/7 on-call support for operational needs.
- Order Management:
Manages fuel requirements from the global fleet, verifies product availability and quality in over 180 fueling ports. Supports pricing validation for over a $2 billion in direct annual spend. Enters internal orders accurately into the purchasing system while managing 40% change orders with end-to-end purchasing responsibility, monitoring order status, confirmation of operational critical order details (location, product quality, delivery dates, mode of delivery, price) that can exceed $1 million per delivery.
This position has the authority to bind the company on high-valued fuel commitments. - Spot Purchasing:
Negotiates spot purchases under $1M following approval workflows for all fuel types (HSFO, VLSFO, MGO, LNG, and biofuel alternatives). Obtains market quotes in a volatile, complex commodity market. Communicates with internal and external stakeholders and flags potential issues, delays, product quality, or price discrepancies. - Contract Administration and Price Validation:
Assists in preparing spot and contract documents, performs pricing analysis to understand global fuel indices and calculate last-mile logistics costs to ensure optimal pricing and validation. Collects required documentation and reviews contracts or spot agreements for end-to-end purchase flow. - Operational Coordination:
Learns vessel and port operations within assigned brands or regions. Communicates with Chief Engineers, shoreside teams, and suppliers. Supports monthly forecast demand planning and continuous improvement initiatives. Maintains commercial claims log and uploads supporting documents. - Compliance & Technical Support:
Ensures accurate data handling and timely documentation. Understands ISO 8217 fuel parameters and claim eligibility criteria. Proficient in internal customized fuel purchasing system for order and cost optimization. Supports supplier setup and maintains clear and prompt email and verbal correspondence for global operational support across all time zones.

Operates across both shore-based teams and fleet operations, supporting all global cruise brands. Impacts fuel procurement and delivery for vessels worldwide, ensuring compliance and cost optimization. Serves as a critical link between suppliers, operations, and engineering teams, influencing day-to-day fuel logistics and strategic sourcing decisions. - Problem solving:
Resolves operational challenges such as delivery delays, pricing discrepancies, and documentation gaps. Applies standard operating procedures while exercising judgment to escalate issues and propose solutions. Balances cost efficiency with operational continuity under time-sensitive conditions, coordinating across multiple stakeholders. - Impact:
Directly affects vessel readiness, operational continuity, and emission compliance through timely and accurate fuel supply. Contributes to cost control and compliance within global sourcing. Supports risk mitigation by ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to contractual and regulatory standards. - Leadership:
This role does not have direct reports but requires high levels of operational, procurement, and problem-solving skills to manage a dynamic, highly volatile commodity within a stringent emission regulatory framework that is mission critical to global operations.
