Position Overview
We are seeking a meticulous Assistant Controller to supervise the organization’s financial records and accounting team. This role focuses on supporting and enhancing financial procedures and controls, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all accounting activities in a corporate setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Financial Operations:
- Handle daily cash flow needs for projects and new initiatives
- Supervise credit card reconciliations and payment processing
- Coordinate accounts payable, including invoice approvals and payment releases, while monitoring A/P aging
- Work with project teams to ensure accurate fund recording and maintain fee schedules
- Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheets, P&L, cash flows) and perform variance analysis
- Conduct bank and balance reconciliations for multiple entities
- Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial reports using accounting software
- Ensure monthly accruals are correctly recorded and assist in reviewing internal controls and accounting policies
- Tax & Year-End Coordination:
- Assist in preparing files for tax professionals, addressing inquiries, and tracking tax return statuses
- Support year-end journal entries and coordination with tax preparers, including 1099 reviews and tangible tax returns
- Review operating agreements to provide capital contribution details for tax purposes
- Team & Administrative Support:
- Oversee bank account setup, wire transfers, and online banking access for staff
- Facilitate internal transfers, update tracking records, and provide documentation to the accounting team
- Guide accounting staff training and process improvements in collaboration with senior leadership
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5–7 years of corporate accounting experience
- Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Excellent written, verbal, and teamwork skills
- CPA (active license) preferred
