Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or two (2) years of experience in conducting investigations, regulatory inspections or law enforcement.
  • Valid Class E driver license.
  • Graduates seeking use of U.S. earned education must verify the degree; foreign graduates must provide a credential evaluation from an approved agency.
Additional Requirements
  • Moderate travel including overnight and sometimes up to two weeks at a time on an emergency program.
  • Assigned territory.
  • Successful applicants must pass background screening, including fingerprinting.
Job Duties
  • Conduct investigations in all program areas pursuant to the authority of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
  • Develop investigative plans, interview witnesses, take sworn testimony, gather documentary evidence, conduct surveillance, and hold fact‑finding conferences.
  • Negotiate agreements to settle or conciliate complaints, maintain active caseload with moderate supervision, and review newly assigned cases within 10 days.
  • Conduct background investigations on licensees or registrants and prepare administrative reports, orders, notices, and subpoenas.
  • Prepare cases for prosecution, working with other enforcement agencies, and assistance in court or administrative presentations.
  • Ensure supervisor is informed of relevant matters, report status to next available supervisor when necessary, and submit database entries, reports, expense vouchers, time requests, and travel authorizations.
  • Perform research to answer consumer‑related questions, stay abreast of legislation, and advise supervisors on consumer issues.
  • Coordinate and assist with training of new investigators and provide mentoring techniques.
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert and assist other sections within the Division as needed.
