REPORTS TO: Building Principal
LOCATION: Middle School
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or related field
- Valid Missouri teaching certificate appropriate for middle school ELA
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
The Middle School ELA Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. This position creates a structured and supportive learning environment that promotes literacy growth, creativity, and academic achievement while aligning instruction with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction and Curriculum
- Plan and deliver standards-based English Language Arts instruction aligned with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards
- Teach reading comprehension, writing processes, grammar, vocabulary, and literary analysis
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners and promote student engagement
- Incorporate technology and collaborative learning opportunities into instruction
- Differentiate instruction to meet individual learning needs
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment
- Promote respectful discussion, collaboration, and critical thinking
- Support students' social-emotional development and academic confidence
- Implement classroom management strategies aligned with school expectations
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments
- Maintain accurate grade records and provide timely feedback
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and student support meetings
- Collaborate with grade-level teams and interdisciplinary staff
- Participate in professional development related to literacy instruction and middle school practices
- Support school initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
- Follow district policies, curriculum guidelines, and professional standards
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings as assigned.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills
- Ability to foster student engagement and discussion
- Knowledge of reading and writing development for middle school students
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to move throughout the classroom and school environment
- Ability to supervise students during instructional activities
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials or technology equipment
- Participation in school events or meetings outside of regular hours as needed
- Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Certified
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month contract year
Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.
Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.
