The AC Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial clients. This role ensures systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards and local codes. The technician provides exceptional customer service while diagnosing issues and recommending solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance, service calls, and emergency repairs on air conditioning and HVAC systems.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in AC units, compressors, and related equipment.
- Install, inspect, and test new HVAC systems and components.
- Recharge refrigerants and check for leaks in accordance with EPA regulations.
- Calibrate thermostats, replace filters, belts, and other parts as needed.
- Document all service and repair activities accurately using work order systems.
- Communicate clearly with customers about work performed, recommendations, and preventive maintenance options.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Stay current on HVAC industry best practices, tools, and technology.
- Assist with training apprentices or junior technicians as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of HVAC service experience (commercial or residential).
- EPA Section 608 certification required.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of HVAC electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Excellent troubleshooting, time management, and communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.
- NATE certification or equivalent.
- Experience with energy management systems (EMS).
- Knowledge of building automation and controls.
- Customer-focused attitude with professional appearance and demeanor.
- Field-based role requiring travel to various job sites.
- May involve work outdoors and in extreme temperatures.
- Occasional evening or weekend shifts for emergency service calls.
