Ameri Corps Resource and Data VISTA
This VISTA position will help us assist tens of thousands of people throughout Louisiana. They will work with our Resource Department, which manages our human services database that clients use to connect with all types of human services that they need. The VISTA will help evaluate this database and identify ways to expand it. They will ensure that we are prepared to support residents during disasters by helping to develop the tools that we use during hurricanes and pandemics.
This VISTA will also expand how we share data with our community. The VISTA will develop valuable data analysis skills by learning how databases are structured, and how to use Microsoft Power BI software and using it to create data dashboards. Our data dashboards are used by a range of government and nonprofit organizations, and this VISTA will identify new ways to analyze our data so that it can be useful for the public.
The VISTA member will alleviate poverty in Southeast Louisiana by improving the human services referrals that VIA LINK makes to residents, which will help them connect with services that can improve their health and financial outcomes. They will also address poverty by improving the human services data that nonprofits, foundations and government agencies have access to so that they can conduct better planning and create more effective programs to address poverty.
