Surgical First Assistant - PRN

Join LCMC Health as a Surgical First Assistant to provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon perform a safe operation and achieve optimal patient outcomes. The role includes pre‑operative and post‑operative duties to facilitate proper patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist in positioning the patient and providing visualization of the operative site under direct supervision.
• Utilize appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes.
• Select and apply appropriate wound dressings and assist with securing drainage systems to tissue.
• Participate in volume replacement or auto‑transfusion techniques as appropriate.
• Act as a team player supporting the department and hospital’s strategic goals.

Minimum Must‑Haves

• 5‑7 years of supervised experience in surgery and institutional training in surgical technology.
• Diploma or degree from an accredited Surgical First Assistant program.
• Valid license as an RN/LPN or PA if applicable.
• Certification through the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) or Surgical Assistant – Certified (SA‑C) through the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).
