Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced, enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working with young people to fill the position of Upper School English Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The full-time, 10-month position includes a comprehensive benefits package along with all school-year holidays.
Responsibilities- Teaching 4-5 sections of English
- Focusing on active reading, text-based discussion in a seminar format, and analytical writing, revising, and editing
- Serving as an advisor to roughly a dozen students, monitoring the students' progress in all facets of school life, and assisting the students in making goals, plans, and decisions
- Being an active member of the Country Day community, which could include some activities such as coaching, and/or after-school clubs
- Working to cultivate a community that values and celebrates different cultures, beliefs, and our shared humanity
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or a division principal
- Supporting the Mission of the School and its leadership
The goals of the Country Day English curriculum are to teach students to read and think critically, to write with clarity and insight, to listen and speak mindfully, and to value reading both for its intrinsic pleasure and its ability to help shape one’s conscience.
