Reports To: Shop Foreman - Transportation
EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- To keep pupil transportation vehicles in such a state of operation excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the functions of a safe and efficient transportation system designed to allow the students the fullest possible advantages from the district curriculum and extracurricular programs.
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class
B) with air brakes and passenger endorsement Must obtain within 3 months of Hire date and a (class
A) within 6 months - Texas Education Agency School Bus Driver Certificate
- State of Texas State Vehicle Inspector Certification within 2 months of Hire date
- Must pass the D.P.S. Medical Examination Report for School Bus
- Drivers
- Must be able to pass alcohol and drug test
- Possess ability to read, write, understand and communicate verbal and written instructions and responses in English
- Demonstrate success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency at automotive and diesel mechanical repair
- Possess a full range of motion in hands, arms, and trunk
- Mechanic tools, tune up equipment, tire changing equipment, jacks, vice, chain hoist, wrecker
- Successful performance for one (1) year as a mechanic.
- Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, clutches, dry lines, differentials, suspension systems, wheels, brakes, steering systems, electrical systems, instruments, fuel systems, cooling and hydraulic systems
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspection and repairs
- Requisition parts and supplies
- Maintain associated records
- Drive school bus routes or trip as needed
- Continued school bus mechanic training as assigned by Fleet Manager, Shop Foreman or Director of Transportation
- Must obtain a refrigerant handlers license
- Must be able to perform road calls
- Willing to be flexible on after hour calls
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands:
- Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Reading, writing, understanding, and communicating verbal and written instructions and responses in English.
- Pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and reaching with lifting.
- Carrying up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Manually change, breakdown tires on school buses.
- Operating motor vehicle.
- Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold)
- Exposure to vehicle fumes.
- Working around moving equipment, noise, exposure to oils, fuels, greases, batteries, and cleaning solvent vapors.
