EMPLOYMENT BEGINS:  School Year

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

To provide instruction and assistance necessary to enable all children to achieve and function successfully in the least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Special Education Certificate
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/

SKILLS:
  • Understanding of various disabilities and special education law.
  • Skills to assist in remediation of various disabilities.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of the MISD.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
EXPERIENCE:
  • None
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Teach children with learning impairments to function in regular classroom with modifications.
  • Plan programs of study that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Attend Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
  • Develop and update the individual education plan for students.
  • Work in collaboration with classroom teacher(s) to formulate teaching strategies, plan appropriate lessons, and evaluate student progress.
  • Disclose confidential information regarding students only when disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
  • Perform other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Special education instructional aides
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

  • Performing medical and personal hygiene procedures consistently.
  • Lifting students.
