DefinitionUnder direct supervision of the Leisure Services Superintendent, assists the public in the safe use of City aquatic facilities, responsible for the overall cleanliness and look of the Recreation Center aquatic facilities and assist with various aquatics programs.
- Standard Red Cross First Aid practices.
- Water hazards, life saving techniques and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Swimming pool operations, safety rules and regulations, rules and regulations relating to Recreation Center Aquatics programs, and water rescue methods and procedures.
- Make correct decisions and act quickly in emergencies.
- Render latest approved First Aid and artificial respiration procedures if needed.
- Avoid conversation with public or engage in other distraction while on the lifeguard stand.
- Able to follow oral and written instructions.
- To be highly motivated, responsible, enthusiastic, and a team player.
- Work a flexible schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other personnel.
Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Must be at least 16 years old.
Experience: One or more seasons of experience as a lifeguard are desirable.

Must possess at the time of employment and continuously throughout employment a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483, Lifeguard Certifications, current First Aid and CPR Certificates.
