Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician who will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
A successful Diesel & Trailer Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical/braking/cooling systems, starters/alternators, and other listed systems.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems including aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment and systems including electrical/braking/cooling, air conditioning, engine electronics, drivetrain components, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on trailer equipment and systems including trailer brakes, air lines, liftgates, welding, fabrication, and bodywork as needed.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks with effective prioritization of work and time management.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule; maintain productivity and align with standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals, retrieve purchase orders, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years of related experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
