New Hire Experience

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to ten-year maximum

Job Summary

To provide student store services for students. Staff and parents; to direct, guide and monitor the activities of students working in the student store.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct, guide and monitor the activities of students, including those with special needs, in the operation of the student store
  • Order supplies and manage inventory; communicate with vendors to achieve best price and merchandise; prepare requisitions as needed
  • Sell school supplies; conduct physical inventories and prepare reports for inventory control
  • Balance and reconcile discrepancies of daily cash drawer; prepare bank deposit and district reports
  • Confer with supervising teacher on the progress of students working in the store
  • Maintain store appearance to maximize merchandising and sales
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications
  • High School education or equivalent
  • Previous school employment preferred

  • Moderate proficiency in typing, with accuracy; above average test battery; high math aptitude
  • Ability to operate standard business machines including cash registrar, adding machine and calculator
  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, Email, etc)
  • Knowledge of retail operator principles to include cash handling, accounting and inventory maintenance
  • Ability to organize and to prioritize with accurate attention to detail while working with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision
  • Ability to work well with students, staff, parents and general public
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Inside the school’s student store, usually situated in a designated area such as the cafeteria, hallway, or a small retail space
  • During school hours, lunch breaks, before/after school periods—part-time and often on a rotating schedule
  • Frequent interaction with students, teachers, and staff; good customer service and communication skills are important
  • Tasks include managing transactions, organizing inventory, restocking items, and maintaining cleanliness of the store area
  • Occasionally lift and carry boxes, books or supplies (typically 25-50 pounds)
