Registered Nurse RN Neuro Progressive Care Unit PCU (Banner Health)

Location: Mesa, Arizona

Department: PCU Neuro - 4A

Work Shift: Night (3x12‑hour shifts, 7:00 pm–7:30 am with weekend rotations)

Night Shift Differential: 18%

Weekend Shift Differential: $3 per hour flat rate

$20,000 Hire On Bonus*: eligible for RN with 12+ months experience; requires a 2‑year commitment.

Banner Desert Medical Center offers a patient‑centered culture within a Level 1 Trauma designated hospital. The Neuro PCU RN provides care to telemetry patients with neurological diseases and patients who have suffered a stroke on a 36‑bed unit. The role involves working in a multidisciplinary team that emphasizes teamwork and leadership for exceptional patient care.

Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction. It utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Functions
  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within appropriate timeframe. Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need.
  • Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, using assessment data and patient, family, and health team input. Initiate a plan based on patient‑specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care. Created goals for patient are realistic, measurable, and developed with patient/family. Consider the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age‑specific and educational needs of the patient.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and personnel. Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status.
  • Evaluate the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed. Evaluate patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members. Evaluate patient’s response and effectiveness of patient teaching.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy. Reflect objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient response to treatment. Note physician orders accurately and timely.
  • Provide evidence‑based care and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participate in unit or facility shared leadership. Interact and participate in education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Promote/support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. May participate in professional organizations.
  • In some roles, this position may supervise staff and workflow of the department.
  • Interact with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies concerning patient health.
