Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The Assistant Director provides leadership and manages the operations of the Early Education Division in administering federal, State, and non‑profit programs and grants, including Early Head Start, Head Start, Child Care Partnerships, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

The Early Education Division is federally funded to administer center‑based Head Start and Early Head Start early care and education, along with community resources and referrals to support children living in low‑income households to be ready for school and families to achieve self‑sufficiency. Currently, classrooms are operated through a mixed service delivery model of full‑year, part‑year, community, and school‑based sites operated directly by Maricopa County and through contracted childcare partners.

The Maricopa County Human Services Department (HSD) builds resiliency in the community and promotes the well‑being of County residents experiencing adversity through a variety of programs and services to help people and families thrive. These opportunities include early childhood education, housing, home ownership, independent living services for seniors and adults with disabilities, career development for job seekers with barriers to employment, crisis rental and utility assistance, and support for people experiencing homelessness.

• Six years of professional program administration and/or implementation experience, which included fiscal and grant management
• Three years of administration of a large human service program, including supervision and managerial administration
• 45 CFR 1302.91 (b) An Early Head Start or Head Start director must, at a minimum, have a baccalaureate degree and experience in supervision of staff, fiscal management, and administration

• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
