Mesa Community College is excited to extend the opportunity to join its Custodial Facilities Department at the Southern and Dobson Campus. The purpose of the Custodian position is to provide a full range of custodial duties campus‑wide, including sweeping, mopping, maintaining restrooms, break rooms, trash/recycling bins, multi‑surface wipe‑downs and overall general cleanliness upkeep of all facilities.
Job SummaryThe Custodian will perform essential custodial functions office‑wide. Responsibilities include maintaining room cleanliness and cleanliness standards, handling cleaning chemicals, operating custodial equipment, performing minor maintenance tasks and reporting needed repairs, and preparing rooms for events.
Essential Functions- 40% – Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes floors; vacuums and cleans carpets; cleans whiteboards, dusts, and polishes furniture; in‑depth knowledge of chemical handling and floor‑care.
- 20% – Maintains restrooms, break rooms, and removes cobwebs inside and outside.
- 10% – Performs minor maintenance tasks and reports required repairs; arranges furniture and equipment for events.
- 10% – Inspects and conducts routine maintenance of small equipment used by custodial.
- 10% – Empties and cleans trash cans and recycling receptacles; uses electric vehicles to haul trash when necessary.
- 10% – Other duties as assigned.
Completion of formal or informal education or experience that assures the ability to read, write, and speak at a level sufficient for the successful completion of the job duties described.
Desired Qualifications- Experience working in a college or large school environment.
- Experience providing customer service in medium to large facilities.
- Two (2) years of experience with industrial cleaning methods and chemicals.
- Two (2) years of experience operating custodial equipment.
- Two (2) years of experience with proper use, storage, dilution and labeling of cleaning products.
- One (1) year of experience conducting quality control checks.
- Location:
Southern and Dobson Campus, 1833 W Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ 85202. - May be required to lift or carry up to 20 pounds.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials.
- Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions.
- Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver’s license is required.
- Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate’s own expense.
- MCCCD does not sponsor visas.
- May travel or be assigned to any MCCCD location.
